Overview of Ramo Cloud Storage

The infrastructure aggregated via the Ramo network supports the full spectrum of Cloud computing and storage use cases. This page outlines how to use Ramo Cloud storage.

Ramo Cloud Storage is ideal for archived data, such as data stored for legal or regulatory reasons or for disaster recovery with very infrequent access. The integrity of data stored is verified daily via blockchain-based proofs and data is typically retrievable within 12 hours.

How it works

Ramo Storage is an S3-compatible cloud storage solution. As a user of the service, you interact with your data using a simple command-line interface for managing buckets and objects.

Ramo Cloud Storage uses cryptographic proofs to validate that your data is being stored as specified. The proofs are being generated by hardware providers that collectively form the Ramo network. The proofs are recorded on the Filecoin blockchain, an immutable distributed ledger. They allow you to independently verify the integrity of your data.

Your provider(s) generate proofs for all your files constantly: Initially, a so-called Proof of Replication (PoRep) to verify that your dataset has been received and correctly replicated. After that, recurring so-called Proofs of Spacetime (PoSt)to verify daily that your data continues to be stored as requested.

The reliance on proofs eliminates the need to rely on service level agreements or the brand or reputation of a cloud storage provider. It enables a broader range of providers to compete, lowers the barriers to entry, and ultimately reduces costs. In addition to lowering costs, this decentralized approach ensures resilience and avoids vendor lock-in.

Getting started with Ramo Cloud Storage

To get started with Ramo Cloud Storage, begin by selecting a provider that aligns with your specific needs, including factors like location, cost, and other preferences. If you have no specific preferences, visit use.ramo.computer to get started.

In line with other cloud storage solutions, Ramo Cloud Storage providers typically charge your based on the volume and duration (e.g., USD/TB-month) for which you want to store your data and the volume of data you would like to retrieve (e.g., USD/TB) and transfer (e.g., USD/TB).

Use this cost calculator to create initial costs estimates for your storage needs. Note that different Ramo Cloud Storage providers may offer different pricing options and features. Typically, prices are a fraction of what conventional providers charge for similar cloud storage services.

Once you have selected your storage provider(s), download the Ramo Cloud Storage app (ramo-cli), a simple command-line interface for managing buckets and storage on the storage infrastructure of your provider(s) using the Ramo S3 API.
